OpenAI brings o1-pro model to its developer API with higher pricing, better performance | Technology News - The Indian Express

OpenAI’s high-performing o1-pro model is now available for developers via its API (application programming interface), though at a notably steep price.

Considered to be the advanced version of the o1 reasoning model, OpenAI said that o1-pro draws on more compute power to provide “consistently better responses.”

While the o1-pro has been available through the ChatGPT interface for ChatGPT Pro subscribers since December, it is now accessible to select developers who are willing to spend at least $5 on the Microsoft-backed company’s API services.

OpenAI is betting that o1-pro’s improved performance will convince developers to pay for the pricey API access. The company said it costs $150 for every one million input tokens (approx. 7,50,000 words) and $600 per million output tokens. It is two times the charges of accessing OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 on the input side and ten times more than the cost of accessing the o1 reasoning model.

“o1-pro in the API is a version of o1 that uses more computing to think harder and provide even better answers to the hardest problems. After getting many requests from our developer community, we’re excited to bring it to the API to offer even more reliable responses,” an OpenAI spokesperson was quoted as saying by TechCrunch.

According to OpenAI’s internal benchmarks released last year, o1-pro is slightly more capable and reliable in solving math problems and executing coding tasks than its regular sibling.

Kangana Ranaut's debut film "Emergency" is a self-indulgent and poorly made movie that highlights her limited range as an actor. Her obsession with herself is evident through tight close-ups, neglecting to explore Indira Gandhi's character. The film also promotes dangerous ideas about authoritarianism.
